Prunes are basically plums that have been dried naturally in the sun without undergoing any fermentation process. Plums and prunes are impressively high in nutrients. They contain over 15 different vitamins and minerals, in addition to fiber and antioxidants. Overall, the vitamin and mineral content of one serving of plums and prunes differs slightly. Prunes contain more vitamin K than plums and are somewhat higher in B vitamins and minerals. They are known for improving several health conditions, including constipation and osteoporosis.

How to Enjoy:

You can eat sun-dried black plums on their own, or enjoy them in smoothies and salads. You can even add prunes in a savory dish. Basically, any dish you would pair with raisins, pairs beautifully with prunes. Simmer prunes with apples in chicken broth to create a sauce that works well with chicken or pork. You can also boil prunes until they are soft and then puree them to make a prune paste that can be spread on toast, or use bite-sized prunes to top off pizza, pancakes and waffles for added flavor.

Store in a cool, dry place at 04°C – 20°C, away from direct sunlight. Refrigeration recommended in warm climates.
